METHOD OF SKIING - ONE TO ONE INSTRUCTION WITH POSSIBLE RADIO MICS AND SKI TOE TIP CONNECTORS

AGE - 11 TO 14

CONDITION - AMBULANT VISUALLY IMPAIRED

INJURY: POSSIBLE ASSOCIATED ILLNESS

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THIS CHILD?

One to one instruction with ski guide.

Possible use of personal radio mics - guide to student.

Possible use of (Toe Tip Connectors) these are made of stainless steel and clamp the front tips of the child’s skis together.

This eliminates involuntary movements of the skis tips, preventing backwards, forwardS and sideways slip.

This allows the child to open and close the back of the skis for the purpose of turning the skis.

After a period of time it may be possible to remove this connector. After a few days it may be possible to use the resort button lift (ski lift)

SUITABLE ONLY FOR

Very strong will to achieve

Able to comprehend instruction

To integrate with 19 other sighted youngsters

Ability to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time

No orthopaedics of any kind

Must be able to wear ski boots without the skin breaking down. Ski Boots come up to just below the knee

A degree of independency and sense of humour would benefit this child

NOT SUITABLE FOR

Learning difficulties and challenging behaviour, regarding safety on the mountain
