CRITERIA

METHOD OF SKIING - SNOW SLIDER SKI FRAME

AGE - 8 TO 9

WEIGHT - UNDER 6 STONE

CONDITION - USER OF ZIMMER OR ROLATOR POSSIBLE USER OF STICKS OR ELBOW CRUTCHES

Ski boots act as splints whilst skiing

INJURY: DISABILITY OR ASSOCIATED ILLNESS

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THIS CHILD?

This child/young person will ski only with this specialised Snow Slider Ski Frame. This method enables the skier to have 4 points of contact with the snow, as both of their feet have skis on as do the frame.

The child’s ski tips are secured to a front bar connected to the frame's two skis. All the child needs is enough stamina to stand up and hold on.

This child must be able to comprehend instruction to learn how to carve their own turns in the snow by transferring their body weight onto the frame's outer skis.

SUITABLE ONLY FOR

Must have r easonable grip in both hands to hold and operate frame

Ability to stand and walk with frame or sticks for long periods of time - at least 30 minutes or more at any one time

Ability to wear the ski boots without the skin breaking down on the foot or ankle and just up to below the knee

Ability to access stairs would help

No in-turned feet, as feet and skis must run parallel. Soles of both feet should be flat to the floor

Must be able to comprehend instruction to operate equipment

Strong will to achieve

NOT SUITABLE FOR

Profound learning difficulties and challenging behaviour regarding safety on the mountain

Any child over 6 stone
