METHOD OF SKIING - DEMAND SKI FRAME

AGE - 12 to 14

Minimum Height to Child's Chin - 42"
Minimun Inside Leg - 25"

WEIGHT - UNDER 7 STONE

CONDITION - WHEELCHAIR USER THAT CAN WEIGHTBEAR ON FRAME OR ROLATOR FOR APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MINUTES AT A TIME

Ski Boots act as splints whilst skiing

INJURY: DISABILITY OR ASSOCIATED ILLNESS

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THIS CHILD?

This child/young person will ski only with the specialised Demand Ski Frame. This method enables the skier to have 4 points of contact with the snow, as both of their feet have skis on as do the frame.

The child’s right ski is coupled to the frame's right ski and the same on the left side.
All the child has to do is to be able to stand weightbear with the aid of a seat and body brace and to hold on to levers operating backwards and forwards.

This child must be able to comprehend instruction - to learn how to carve their own turns in the snow by pulling and pushing levers to make the turns.

SUITABLE ONLY FOR

Means of support: The user will wear a full body Velcro brace that will attach to the ski frame's forward body and chest support, otherwise they must semi-stand with the use of a supporting seat only

Really good grip in both hands is essential to hold and operate frame levers by pushing and pulling

Ability to stand and weightbear with frame for long periods of time. (At least 30 minutes, to be able to use this equipment)

Ability to access stairs would help

Ability of both feet entering into ski boots and without the skin breaking down on thefoot or ankle and just up to below the knee

No in-turned feet, once skis are fitted both feet and skis must run parallel with each other

Soles of both feet must be flat to the floor

Must be able to comprehend instruction to operate equipment

Strong will to achieve

NOT SUITABLE FOR

Profound learning difficulties and challenging behaviour regarding safety on the mountain

Any child over 7 stone
