METHOD OF SKIING - BI-SKI

AGE - 13 to 14

WEIGHT - UNDER 7.5 STONE

CONDITION - WHEELCHAIR DEPENDENT

LOWER BODY DISABILITY

INJURY: POSSIBLE DOUBLE AMPUTEE OR ASSOCIATED ILLNESS

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THIS CHILD?

The Bi-Ski will be assigned to this child only and will be of no use to any other child.
This method of skiing is the ultimate for the wheelchair bound.

This child/young person must be able to comprehend instruction to learn how to carve out their own turns in the snow by the use of short elbow flip ski out-riggers short elbow crutches with small skis on the end and flip up metal cleats for stationary support.

Hence the 3-essential strengths required below

Supervised by our experienced ski guide, who at all times will be tethered to the Bi-Ski in the event of the skier getting into difficulties. It will be possible for the child to ski alongside their able bodied friends but in a seated position.

Very strong upper body and shoulders (essential)

Very strong in both arms (essential)

Very strong grip in both hands (essential)

Must be able to help the two assigned carers in any transfer movements

Mature attitude to be able to operate this equipment

A strong will to understand instruction and to achieve - will benefit this child

NOT SUITABLE FOR

Learning difficulties and challenging behaviour regarding safety on the mountain

Any child over 7.5 Stone Handling and Moving Regulations
